Summary: | Members of the central executive cheered [Lekota] and [Dandala], singing and dancing in a show of unity. Dandala told journalists he had resigned from all his positions and was no longer a bishop in the Methodist Church. He promised to lead South Africans to a better life and said a COPE government would be founded on "honesty, integrity and justice". Speaking soon after COPE's central national committee meeting yesterday, Dandala said: "I joined COPE because I have spent my life working for peace, fighting for justice and seeking a society where integrity is the most important guiding philosophy. "I am very sorry that they want to leave and if they didn't understand I apologise. Some of those who have resigned I ask of them to review their ways because the future lies with COPE," said Lekota. He denied that COPE called an urgent meeting of the CNC on Sunday night to discuss the nomination and the fall-out among members. |
