Summary:Lambing, my favorite time of the year, begins about March 1. In our part of west central Minnesota, early March can be a cold, snowy, windy place. So we lamb in a barn and we check the sheep every three hours to see if any need help lambing or nursing. As we move through the month and the barn fills with lambs, we all get more tired and the house and our clothes get more dirty. One daughter takes up the slack by cooking supper and doing the laundry. Another daughter comes home from college to help out during spring break. My mother, a city girl from the day she was born, fills in at the farm for my husband when he has to go to work at his real job. We check ewes, check lambs, tag ears, dock tails and give shots. We feed the sheep and ourselves. We fill water buckets and clean pens...
