Summary:''We're aware of all these accounts, but do you believe them or not?'' asked one investigator, who said law enforcement in the state had never faced such an elusive and seemingly intractable case. ''They have said these things, but are they true?'' Miss Brawley's adviser, the Rev. Al Sharpton, and her lawyers, Alton H. Maddox Jr. and C. Vernon Mason, denounced the report by G as a hoax for which the reporter paid. Mr. [Mike Taibbi] later acknowledged that he gave G $10 ''for gas,'' but said it was not compensation for a story. WCBS said its professional standards and ''strict guidelines for truth and accuracy'' were not violated. 'She Was Pretty' Mr. [Howard Kave] said the information concerned ''[Tawana Brawley]'s presence at a party'' - apparently the [Davis] party - and ''there is something more to it than the party.'' He declined to give details. But Mr. [Warren Greher] said his client could provide information about Miss Brawley on ''more than one'' day of the four she was missing.
