Summary: | The other morning I decided to put my theory to the test. As I left the bank teller's window, she voiced what must have been her 20th ''Have a nice day'' of the morning, to which I quickly responded, ''And you have a slice of hay, too.'' She looked up and smiled a happy ''Thank you,'' pleased, no doubt, that someone had at least responded to her greeting. My next step was the stationery store, and as I left I thanked the clerk behind the counter with a ''Have an ice tray,'' to which she responded, ''Thank you and the same to you.'' By now, I was beginning to pick up momentum and enjoying my little experiment. As I saw the accuracy of my theory unfolding, I decided that I'd get even bolder in my greetings. |
