Details of London's walking tours can be obtained from any of the five London Visitor and Convention Bureau Tourist Information Centers. These are in the Victoria Station forecourt; Selfridge's department store, Oxford Street; Harrods, Knightsbridge; the Tower of London, and the Heathrow Central Underground station. Many of the week's walks are listed in Time Out magazine and other publications for visitors. Most programs run from April through October. Here are details of a selection of walking organizations and of some of the tours they offer. A ticket for any two walks costs $3.75 and a ticket for five is $8.40. Among them are: Saturday, 11 A.M. ''In the Footsteps of Sherlock Holmes'' follows some of the byways of Holmes and Watson, recalling cases solved and criminals outwitted. It finishes at the Sherlock Holmes pub. Meet inside Covent Garden Underground station by the ticket office. 2 P.M. ''The City of London - 2,000 Years of History'' traces the development of the City section and examines ancient customs and ceremonies. Meet at the Fish Hill exit of Monument Underground station. Sunday, 11 A.M. ''Shakespeare's London - A Lunchtime Pub Walk'' visits the sites of some of the theaters that flourished in the Southwark section in Elizabethan times. Meet at Fish Hill exit of Monument Underground station. Monday, 11 A.M. ''The London of Charles Dickens'' explores Lincoln's Inn and the surrounding area, visits the Old Curiosity Shop and finishes at the Dickens House Museum. Meet at Holborn Underground station. 2 P.M. ''American London'' looks at associations between the city and the United States, including. places where Henry James, Mark Twain, James McNeill Whistler, John Adams, Theodore Roosevelt and Dwight D. Eisenhower lived. Meet at Green Park Underground station. 7 P.M. ''Haunted London - A Ghost Walk'' has two versions. This one visits sites of murders and hangings and discusses the men and women whose ghosts are said to haunt the place of their execution. Meet at St Paul's Underground station. Friday, 10:30 A.M. ''Lawyers' London'' visits the Royal Courts of Justice, the Inns of Court, the Old Bailey. Meet at Temple Underground station.
