Summary: | "That game was a big hurdle," [Jim Fassel] said Sunday before he embarked on his first day off since July, compliments of his team earning the top seed in the NFC playoffs. The Giants are off this coming weekend before playing their first playoff game either Jan. 6 or 7 at Giants stadium. Fassel admits, however, contemplating the No. 1 seed at the start of the season would have been folly. "You look at what Washington did in the off-season with all their signings," he said. "Then the Rams had virtually the same team back that won the Super Bowl. Minnesota, the way they were playing, and a lot of people were picking Tampa Bay to go to the Super Bowl. So with all that, and for us to end up with the No. 1 seed, I'd say, Yeah, we exceeded a lot of people's expectations." Does that include Fassel? The Giants were on their way to the playoffs, carving their own spot among the NFL's elite. "I believe that," Fassel said, when asked if the Giants were an elite team. "You have to look at the record. We're 12-4, got the No. 1 seed in the NFC. I don't see how anybody can say, Oh, they're not. I've always believed that you are what you are, you are what's your record. |
