Summary:The source of Paul Haggis' script is a story by "F.X. Toole," pseudonym of the late fight manager/cut man Jerry Boyd. [Clint Eastwood] plays a cut man here, ring-savvy Frankie Dunn, who runs a little L.A. gym and occasionally manages fighters, including [Maggie Fitzgerald]. Alienated from his daughter, haunted by failures in the ring-- including damage to best buddy Eddie "Scrap-Iron" Dupris (Morgan Freeman), who narrates the movie--Frankie seems to find redemption and a symbolic father-daughter relationship, guiding Maggie toward a title shot.
