The Count Basie Orchestra, which nobly upholds traditions of its long- gone namesake, will play 8 p.m. Friday (on a double-bill with vocalist Dianne Reeves) in Symphony Center, 220 S. Michigan Ave. (312- 294-3000). William Russo's Chicago Jazz Ensemble will feature guest clarinetist Buddy DeFranco in a historic re-creation of Benny Goodman's 1938 Carnegie Hall concert, in a brunch-benefit show noon May 21 at Green Dolphin Street, 2200 N. Ashland Ave. (312-663-1124). And the Chicago Jazz Orchestra, formerly known as the Jazz Members Big Band, will offer the Chicago premiere of Basie's "Kansas City Suite" 3 p.m. May 21 in the Harold Washington Library Center, 400 S. State St. (312-409-3947).
