Summary: | After the man, who has Alzheimer's disease, was found in early October wandering a Benton Township road roughly 25 hours after he had disappeared, his daughter enrolled him in Project Lifesaver, the Berrien County Sheriff's Department said. This radio transmission system is for those with Alzheimer's, autism, dementia or other cognitive disabilities that make it hard to communicate personal information such as name or address. [Dan Gebo] is an experienced police officer having served with the county police and is a veteran of the U. S. Army, having served during Desert Storm and Desert Shield with the 82nd Airborne. Peppers is a veteran county police officer and received the National Distinguished Service Award from Project Lifesaver. TRIAD president Chris Modlin, of 1st Source Bank, is a strong believer of the program. She also promotes Guardian Alert, a 911 telephone alert program, and a project of TRIAD, (seniors and law enforcement working together). Barbara Dzikowski, program director of Alzheimer's and Dementia Services of Northern Indiana, is an expert in advising families of free services, disease education and references available for afflicted families. |
