Summary:Selectmen have approved the appointments of Joseph Parmaggiani and Kevin Crowley to the police force, effective March 20. Police Chief George Gurley recommended the appointments in a letter to selectmen. Gurley said the pair will be classified as student officers during their training in the Plymouth County Police Academy from March 20 through Aug. 11. They will then join the full-time ranks of the Bridgewater force. - Christine Wallgren HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL NAMED Paul Vieira, an assistant principal at Silver Lake Regional High School, will take the helm as principal of East Bridgewater High School on July 1. The high school has been operating for the last two years with an interim principal, Anthony Sarno. Vieira, who lives in Bridgewater, has been an assistant principal at Silver Lake for six years. Prior to that, he taught Spanish at Barnstable High School and Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High School. - Christine Wallgren ACHILLE WON'T SEEK REELECTION Selectmen chairman Roger Achille has announced he will not run for a second term, opening the way for change on the five-member panel in the May 9 annual town election. According to Town Clerk Helen Christian, former selectman Steven MacCaffrie has taken out nomination papers for Achille's slot. In addition to the three-year selectman's term, the ballot will also feature a one-year term for town moderator, a three-year term on the School Committee, and a five-year term on the Housing Authority. Nomination papers are available at the town clerk's office until March 21. - Christine Wallgren
