Summary:VOTERS DECIDE FIVE RACES Incumbent John Welby successfully warded off challenger Edward Sunshine for a three-year term on the Board of Assessors in the April 24 annual town election, while incumbent James Perry was defeated by challenger Sandra Wright for a three-year term on the Board of Health. According to Assistant Town Clerk Jolie Martin, 3,467 of the town's 13,712 registered voters, or about 25 percent, cast ballots. The election featured five races. In a six-way contest for two three-year terms on the Board of Selectmen, incumbent Herbert Lemon and candidate Marybeth Lawton prevailed over Daniel Brophy, Earl Mulligan, Ronald Pacy, and Frank Sousa. Joseph Gillis Jr. defeated Laurie Miller in a race for a three-year term on the Bridgewater-Raynham Regional School Committee, and Robert Iafrate defeated Peter Colombotos to win a five-year term on the Planning Board. - Christine Wallgren MUSCATO WINS CLOSE RACE With 15 percent of the town's voters going to the polls last week, Finance Committee member Francis Muscato won a closely contested race for selectman. Muscato received 461 votes to 348 for Vincent Nocera Jr., 232 for Ann Marie Noyes, and 94 for Frank Mazzilli. Jean McGillicuddy was reelected town clerk with 940 votes; challenger Nicholas Zibelli received 191. Treasurer/Tax Collector Stephen Romano was reelected with 681 votes to challenger Christine Orr's 437. Mary Kaminski, with 807 votes, and Eva Kay Spencer, with 748, were both elected to three-year terms on the School Committee. A total of 1,168 voters took part in the election, according to the clerk's office. - Robert Knox VOTERS STICK WITH FAMILIAR FACES Incumbents ruled the day in Tuesday's town election. Selectmen Robert Kimball, with 627 votes, and Charles Moitoza, with 523, handily outdistanced challenger Robert Legg, who received 297 votes in the race for two seats on the board. In the School Committee race, incumbents Jonathan O'Reilly and Donna Gradie received 538 and 476 votes, respectively, while challenger William Rotundi garnered 419. The Board of Assessors, Housing Authority, Water and Sewer Committee, and Planning Board all saw unopposed incumbents reelected. About 900 people, less then 10 percent of Norton's registered voters, took part in the election, according to the town clerk's office. - Joanna Massey
