Summary:Deepa Padda, owner of a Phillips 66 service station in Troy, Ill. Padda, a former math teacher in St. Louis, was born in India near the Pakistan border and practices the Sikh faith. She came to the United States in 1970 and is a naturalized citizen. [Padda], who witnessed firsthand war between India and Pakistan during the 1960s, worries about political instability in Pakistan. She also prays for the people of Afghanistan who are oppressed by the Taliban, she says, and who also will suffer from the bombings. Still, she says, negotiation has not worked.
