Milwaukee signed the former Cardinal to the largest contract in franchise history. By inking Suppan to a four-year, $42 million deal - with an option for a fifth year - the Brewers are banking on a known-quantity effect. Suppan will be good for his 190 innings and 30 starts, allowing the Brewers to boast, today, that they have the most consistent pitching staff in the NL Central. The Souped-up staff had 88 quality starts last season, including 11 from injury- plagued Ben Sheets. (For reference, the 100-win Cardinals in 2005 had 96.) Consistency is different from dominance.
