Summary: | October is a leaf bag full of daily delights - a pinata of treasures. The big round "O" of October spews out cooler days, changing leaves, ripenings, pumpkins, ghosts, ghouls, and goblins. When the sun shines in October, everything takes on sharper edges, more brilliant colors, and subtle hints of winter and holidays to come. No other month performs quite like October. Its "O" is like a chorusing mouth singing its own praises, or a jolly Jack-'O-Lantern inviting us to loosen up and have some fun. "OCTOBER LIGHT" by John Gardner - a novel written as only he can write about an elderly brother and sister on a small Vermont farm, and their love/hate relationship. I read this a long time ago, and it's one I can't forget - one I will read again. |
