The fire started in the grassy area underneath the Arkansas side of the bridge about noon and was extinguished by about 4:30, West Memphis Fire Department captain Charles Stover said. Some railroad debris was also burned, but not the bridge itself. Stover said the railroad was shut down for a couple of hours. Memphis Fire Department officials lent a hand by pumping water from the Tennessee side of the bridge through a pipe running alongside it.
