Summary: | Next to go was responsibility. Students no longer have to worry about unexcused absences. The main deterrent to skipping school used to be that upon return, the delinquent student received zeroes on all missed work. In fact, even for an excused absence, a student had only three days to make up missed assignments. Now, however, for an unexcused absence a student gets five days to make up work, and for an excused absence, until the end of the following six weeks. A student could conceivably have 12 weeks just to complete a worksheet. High school used to prepare teenagers for college and the real world. Not anymore. |
