Summary:It is the right thing to eliminate the state sales tax on grocery food. It will not be an easy thing to do, but it is the right thing. The poor must make many other difficult choices every day - choices that most of us cannot imagine having to make. Removing the sales tax on grocery food will not solve all of the problems such citizens have, but it will help. Call to Renewal/Jubilee 2000, an organization that represents more than 800 congregations of faith throughout Memphis and Shelby County, is leading the movement to repeal the grocery tax. Our group includes Jews, Muslims, Catholics, Southern Baptists, members of the Church of God in Christ, and representatives of all of the so-called mainline Protestant denominations.
