Midway through the third quarter Ed Marsh recovered a Josh McDaniel fumble, and Austin-East drove from the Gibbs 34 to set up Jeff Phillips' 15-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Reggie Jones. Gibbs' first possession of the second half ended with quarterback Dane Daley losing the team's first fumble on the Austin-East 45. On his way down he took a helmet to the hip and was forced to sit out the rest of the game with a hip pointer.
