Summary: | Metaphors are as numerous as grains of sand in the Sahara -- and blend in just as effortlessly -- in "Desert Blue." A delightful, thoughtful film posing as a comedy, "Desert Blue" is a welcome change from the younger-demographic clone cluster that has inundated theaters during the first half of the year. What a pity that it's being released as theaters are gearing up to crack down on under-17s trying to sneak into R-rated movies. Sure, there's strong language, overindulgence in alcohol and a character with an alarming expertise in explosives, but "Desert Blue" would do far more good than harm for teens who have the brain power to recognize the swill they're usually offered and who are thirsting for something better. Fortunately, the fewer truant teens there are in the theater, the more seats will be available for adult viewers, who should be equally charmed. |
