Summary: | From Wednesday through Sunday, people pack the bars and clubs along Hamilton Street such as the Crocodile Rock, the Sterling Hotel, Fat Katz, Jillian's and Federal Grill to listen to bands, dance to a disc jockey's music or hang out with friends. There has been one reported shooting in the last five years. An Allentown man was shot and killed by security guards after he fired at a man and a group of people outside the Chess Club in the 300 block of Hamilton Street early May 16, 1999. The Chess Club, which was in the same building where Fat Katz is located, has closed. City officials recognize that there is a big difference between east and west Hamilton Street -- with only a few restaurants and bars past Seventh Street, such as the Stonewall on 10th Street and the Bay Leaf in the 900 block of Hamilton -- but said there's plenty of potential to lure restaurants and clubs into vacant spaces farther west. |
