Bush's promise of "a different kind of convention" departed from tradition with the first night of the "rolling roll call" of the states from Alabama to Iowa, which all cast their votes for Bush, the only nominee. Cindy McCain, the Arizona delegation's chairwoman and wife of Bush's primary elections rival, John McCain, "enthusiastically and unanimously" bequeathed her state's 30 delegates to Bush.
