Summary:Monroeville yesterday asked a federal appeals court for an emergency stay to stop four of five homes from being purchased there as part of the Sanders housing discrimination lawsuit. In a letter Thursday to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Mt. Lebanon commissioners said they would not formally object to the purchase of seven homes there but were unhappy about the loss of $13,530 in property taxes once the homes were bought by the Allegheny County Housing Authority. The actions by Monroeville and Mt. Lebanon come on the heels of two other developments in the Sanders case: South Fayette's appeal Wednesday to the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals of its unsuccessful challenge of home purchases there, and U.S. Rep. Mike Doyle's call for a federal investigation of the Sanders Task Force and of an agency formed by the lawsuit settlement.
