Summary: | I have been president of the Wisconsin Breast Cancer Detection Foundation since its inception in 1964. We have shown that thermography, a picture of the blood circulation in the breast, is more than 85 percent sensitive in this age group. This is a noninvasive, inexpensive test that will indicate the women who are at an underlying higher risk for further studies. The most accurate imaging test at this time if an MRI with gadolinium contrast, which leaks only from the blood vessels of a cancer in the shadow and outlines the tumor early. This test is thought to be 95 percent sensitive and accurate. It is, however, too expensive and is not plausible to use as a screening device. |
