Summary:Southern Arizona's state legislators went into a meeting with City Manager Mike Hein skeptical about the push to extend the Rio Nuevo special tax district for 20 or 30 years. Hein was flanked at the meeting by business owners who spoke of their interest in Downtown and Rio Nuevo, and urged that the Southern Arizona delegation approve the extension, including manufacturer Don Martin, restaurateur Bob McMahon and real estate broker/developer Roger Karber. Rep. Phil Lopes, D-Tucson, said that Tucson needs the business community to lobby the Legislature in Phoenix because that will give credibility to the Rio Nuevo extension.
