Summary: | After working overtime Thursday night after a day of rain delays, Steffi Graf punched in early at Wimbledon on Friday morning to finish her uncompleted semifinal against Kimiko Date of Japan. Graf leads their overall rivalry 27-8 and has captured 18 of their 24 finals, but since Sanchez Vicario has beaten her in two of their six Grand Slam finals, Graf has never been guilty of underestimating her. Against the 12th-seeded Date, who reversed a 6-0 losing streak against Graf earlier this year in the Fed Cup quarterfinals, Graf played a powerful opening set and a tremulous middle set. |
