Summary: | PALACE OF GOLD & LIGHT: TREASURES FROM THE TOPKAPI, ISTANBUL: This glorious show offers a varied display of some of the most magnificent treasures the world has ever seen, amassed by the Ottoman Empire from the 15th to the 19th centuries. Highlights include the celebrated "Topkapi dagger," the jeweled weapon featured in the '60s heist film Topkapi, and the less flashy but equally striking broadsword of Suleyman I, with its graceful golden filigree of a phoenix and dragon, each with inlaid ruby eyes. Resplendent carpets, a campaign throne of ebony and ivory, household objects adorned with precious metals and gems, elegant porcelains, ornate embroidery -- one of history's great dynasties has left a legacy of vast opulence and remarkable craftsmanship, on view at the Museum of Art, 1 E. Las Olas Blvd., Fort Lauderdale. Tickets $6 to $15; call 800-564-9539. For information, call 954-525-5500. |
