Summary: | I thought I was alone in understanding that much of what Bocelli, for one, sings, is merely Italian pop music. Italians like a full voice, not the choked-up faked wail that passes for pop singing in the United States, so it apparently sounds like "opera" to a pop audience. (Also, it's in a foreign language, so it must be classical.) I love Bocelli's pop singing. ... Then I began to hear this called "classical." Not too bad, when heard on pop stations; such singing is a relief after, say, the repulsive Celine Dion, who labored and grimaced through God Bless America. (Canada, please keep her home.) |
