On July 22, 1946, the Irgun, headed by Menachem Begin, a long-time opponent of [CHAIM WEIZMANN] and later prime minister of Israel, blew up the King David Hotel in Jerusalem, headquarters of the British administration, killing 91 British, Arabs and Jews.
