Summary:I dont feel down, he said Friday, interviewed outside the One- Stop Career Center here. The job seeker has reason for optimism. The economic recovery finally seems to be producing jobs in the Volusia- Flagler market. Unemployment dipped to 4.7 percent in December, an improvement from 5 percent a year ago, according to the state Agency for Workforce Innovation. Unemployment in Volusia and Flagler counties is lower than the national average of 5.4 percent, but not quite as good as Floridas 4.4 percent. The local economy added 4,200 jobs from December 2002 to December 2003 for job growth of 2.5 percent. Sophea Beckford thinks shell have an easier time finding employment here than in her former home of Miami. One advantage is that local employers dont require you to be bilingual, Beckford said Friday at the center.Job seekers might be interested to know the biggest job gains are in business and professional services, which grew by 1,400 jobs, or almost 8 percent.
