It turns out, as the fellow from Jackson who we directed to a trio of bulls said, "You used up all of your luck drawing the number in one spot, there hasn't been a cow bison outside the park the first two weeks of the season since they started hunting bison." After organizing the hunt, rounding up people to help handle the bison once it was shot, shooting the rifle, then passing the mandatory shooting test, there were no cows in any legal areas. The closest we got was a small herd that drifted toward the park boundary near Ditch Creek, but then the lead cow had a hot flash and reversed her field, taking the whole bunch back half a mile into the park.
