Summary:Federal MP Jill Hall's attack on Newcastle-based developer Jeff McCloy's integrity would have met with the approval of nobody except the Lake Macquarie Coastal and Wetlands Alliance, a vocal minority group. I have always considered that taking advantage of Parliamentary privilege to besmirch the credibility of a person is like stealing from a church poor box. Edward Hadley, Lambton Are the people interested in Mr McCloy's development of the land at Burwood Colliery aware that part of this land is under a Government reservation for the Awabakal Field Studies Centre, for education, kindergarten through to university? This land cannot be built upon. Betty Roberts, Carey Bay With Mr Howard ignoring pleas to drop excise tax on petrol, as it would interfere with the budget, I am sorry to inform him that our Tuesday bowls day at Kurri Bowling Club was cancelled due to wet weather, resulting in a revenue loss of $4.80 GST from our usual 24 bowlers' green fees. I hope this loss will not upset his budget. Ray Richardson, Weston With an election looming, John Howard should heed the voice of the people. Petrol brought down the Chifley Government. The refusal to end rationing cost Labor. NSW has been paying 3 a litre voluntary levy since Greiner's day. When are the motorists going to get a fair go? James Smith, Tighes Hill The West Wallsend Meals-On-Wheels is under threat of closure by the Department of Ageing and Disability. But the Sugar Valley people will not allow this to happen as the centre provides a personalised service for the elderly and disabled of our community. Also the kitchen was refurbished three years ago with donations from the miners of Sugar Valley. Glenda Horodecki, West Wallsend The Steel Tank and Pipe Limited type of shareholder protection scheme will continue to flourish while ever we elect so many naive individuals who, regrettably, masquerade as politicians. Wal Bisby, Merewether To pay back millions owed to speculators the Australian Labor Party has set up the revised Land and Environment Plan to give speculators access in specified areas, access to people's backyards, which will end up as ghettos. George Ball, Birmingham Gardens I suggest David Horkan (Short Takes 13/11) read the British Act of Parliament that we now use as our constitution. He will realise why I say we should `seriously' consider a new one. Jack Bertram, Hamilton
