Summary:Peel District School Board (DSB) and Dufferin-Peel Catholic DSB will receive funding to hire 78.6 and 55.6 additional teachers, respectively, with more to come in 2005-06. Brampton students will also benefit from $1.25 million for new resource materials for school libraries and a share of $44 million in new funding for textbooks and other learning resources. Through various grants for student needs, Peel DSB will be given nearly $1 billion and Dufferin- Peel DSB more than $650 million for 2004-05. These significant investments will help our students reach their full potential. We will invest billions more in healthcare in the next few years to increase the number of Family Health Teams and will improve access to community support services for more than 232,000 seniors and people with disabilities by 2007-08, and by providing funding to hospitals to reduce wait times and perform more surgeries and procedures. Here in Brampton, our government is investing more than $2 million at William Osler Health Centre to deliver an additional 1,331 procedures to people in the Brampton area for 142 additional cancer surgeries, 832 more MRI operating hours, 217 additional cataract surgeries and 140 more total hip and knee joint replacements.
