Dr [George Pell], Archbishop of Sydney, is in line to replace arch conservative Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger -- a leading papal contender - - as head of the Catholic Church's Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, according to Vatican sources. Dr Pell, who is well known and respected as a "muscular conservative" in Vatican circles, was Archbishop of Melbourne from 1996 to 2001.
