Summary:John Howard dismissed the move, announced at the weekend by the Victorian and NSW governments, as a "political stunt" rather than a serious effort to attract to Australia the world's largest and most prestigious sporting competition. The boss of world soccer body FIFA, Sepp Blatter, met yesterday with Mr Howard over breakfast at Kirribilli House and said the state and federal governments should focus on reforming the administration of soccer in Australia. Soccer Australia chairman Ian Knop admitted Australia was not yet ready to host the World Cup: "We need to be honest and recognise that, and we need to continue the reform of the game, we need to make sure we are accepted at the corporate community at every level," Mr Knop said.
