Summary:Information technology in the region, excluding Japan, should recover gradually in 2003, driven by an 11 per cent rise in infrastructure upgrades to to $US81 billion ($144 billion), according to analyst IDC. IDC Asia-Pacific managing director Piyush Singh said Indian services companies such as TCS, Infosys, Wipro and Satyam Computer Services would ride the global cost-cutting wave to become key players. The industry has bottomed according to the likes of Telstra chief executive Ziggy Switkowski and analyst Paul Budde. Mr Budde says Australian telecoms revenues declined for the first time ever in 2001, to $36.72 billion, but they will bounce to $38.67 billion for 2002 and to $41.27 billion in 2003.
