Summary:I've heard a lot about change and convenience, and even property values, and these things are being camouflaged under concern for children's education. The children of Central School will have as complete and exciting a school experience at any of Nelson's schools. That is simply a fact. Children do adjust. Learning is about change. Can any of us think back to our fondest school memories and attribute them to the buildings we attended? I know that despite the many school changes I went through, and the fact that I was bussed much of the time, my memories are not of those things, or of buildings. They are of friends, and teachers, and experiences. And those memories can be made anywhere. I've heard parents upset about having to bus their kids to French Immersion or another school. But kids are already being bussed to French Immersion in Nelson. Anyone living in Fairview or Rosemont takes the bus to Central. The program won't be gone under the proposed plan, it will just be situated at another great, historical building -- Hume School.
