Summary:REJECTING calls for his resignation, West Australian Deputy Premier Eric Ripper yesterday signalled he would seek a heavyweight investigator with a military or crisis-management background to lead the inquiry into Wednesday's power fiasco. Mr Ripper said the Government had been right to force the resignations of Western Power chairman Malcolm Macpherson and chief executive Stephen van der Mye on Thursday, but that further action was needed. By 2pm on Tuesday, those concerns became serious and management started devising a strategy, which was sent to Mr van der Mye at about 4pm. Mr van der Mye told Mr Ripper of the problems by 5pm.
