Summary: | My next foray into modern sex education was in the main street of Charters Towers. My husband and I went into the famous store there - - Stan Pollard's -- to purchase some woollen socks for our trip to western Queensland. While the assistant went out the back to check his woolly stock, my eyes lit on a lurid box -- condoms. I pointed them out to my husband. "Look dear, these are flavoured!" While Dear accelerated to another counter, I checked the varieties of flavour available, marvelling how the product seemed to have progressed, or perhaps regressed. Never mind. Not long afterwards my cousin came to stay. Younger than me and with a much younger family, she announced that she had given her children lessons in applying condoms. She'd used bananas. Momentarily I felt I might have neglected my children's education. Later I asked them about my feared omission. They all agreed that they'd had enough trouble accompanying their dad and me to sex lessons at Lifeline. |
