It was cold; my bike display was showing 0C and flashing "ICE!" Then I was through the fog and sleet, and I could see the road. I began to relax. Tight bends, usually a bit of a worry, became a breeze. I pulled into the cafe at the bottom of the mountain and my friend pulled in soon after. He talked about "character building". I talked about a nervous breakdown, but we both really knew it was about dealing with the fear.
