Helfer was discovered as a 16-year-old ingenue in her hometown of Donalda, Alta. In 1992 she gained international attention when she won the Ford Supermodel of the World contest. Now 31, she is famous among sci-fi fans for her role in the series Battlestar Galactica, being filmed in Vancouver.
