Summary: | THREE down, one to go. Vodafone has become the third Australian telco, after Hutchison and Telstra, to announce the imminent launch of its 3G network. People connected to Hutchison's "3" network have been able to access multimedia content such as news and sports highlights since April, 2003. Telstra, which shares its network with Hutchison, launched its $1.2 billion 3G service across Australia on September 5. Major phone manufacturers are now offering a wide range of 3G- enabled handsets. Importantly, new 3G phones are getting smaller, lighter and more affordable. |
