Summary:Cairns-based Flying Doctor Phillipa Binns, who happened to be in nearby Georgetown on another case when the crash was discovered, crouched at the bottom of the 20-30m gully next to the smashed cabin, administering aid to the man as crews abseiled down to cut him free. Dr Binns and a rescue team arrived about an hour later to find the driver dead and the survivor trapped in the sleeping compartment. He was conscious but seriously injured. Dr Binns and Georgetown Hospital Matron Pam Swain provided first aid and comfort to the man and directed rescue workers.
