Summary: | SYDNEY was in the grip of Tattoo fever last week, judging by the countless strangers I encountered who insisted on sharing details of the historic military concert with me. It is only the second time the Tattoo has been staged outside Scotland and a life-size replica of Edinburgh Castle was built at Sydney's Moore Park to accommodate the more than 1200 performers. Hosted by Seven's Tony Squires and Anna Coren, pictured, the two-hour event will feature all the colour and pomp of the original, but with plenty of local flavour. WHILE Brisbane may not have a reputation as a fast-moving city, creatively speaking, we go through Ideas Festivals at a rate of knots. On the jacket flap of The Ideas Book you'll find a website listing for Ideas at the Powerhouse. That one is no more, after its untimely demise because Brisbane City Council didn't like it. But the new one, funded by Griffith University and the State Government, will come to South Bank in October. Meanwhile, the University of Queensland Press, also on the move, has released The Ideas Book, with a huge list of essays from "leading thinkers and critics". |
