Summary: | Since I left Cape York I have been involved in a project at Noel Pearson's Cape York Institute and with Apunipima Cape York Health Council to reform health services on Cape York. This has required ongoing involvement with QH and several meetings with the director- general, Dr Steve Buckland. This has been practically demonstrated by not only his openness with us about past failures but by the recent in-principle agreement to pool QH primary health care funds for Cape York, effectively handing over control from QH to a community health board over time, something which is very innovative for Queensland and would likely not have happened under the previous director-general. This is going to make a great difference to the health and future of people in Cape York.
