Summary:ROB Messenger, the Nationals politician who blew the whistle on the alleged criminal acts of Dr Jayant Patel in Bundaberg Hospital, brought great dignity to the use of the absolute protection of free speech offered by parliamentary privilege. Messenger, a former radio announcer and now the quietly spoken Member for Burnett, put to shame politicians who used "Coward's Castle" for purposes other than for the public good -- those politicians who used the privilege knowing that without it the targets would sue for defamation. Messenger is saying that he hopes [Gordon Nuttall] will not step down or be sacked from the ministry because, while sitting as a minister, he is an albatross around Peter Beattie's neck.
