Summary: | Innisfail and surrounding towns have been swamped with army, SES and Queensland Fire and Rescue service workers, in the wake of Queensland's worst cyclone for 80 years. Qantas delivered 6000 meals to the community, 6000 litres of water arrived, and more than 4000 tarpaulins were trucked in to Innisfail. About 400 soldiers were deployed in convoys from Townsville's Lavarack Barracks. Acting area director of Counter Disaster and Rescue Services Bundaberg area Ian McGeachin said SES, Queensland Fire and Rescue Service employees and Department of Communities staff were on the ground throughout the towns hit hardest. |
