Summary:Council member Larry Reid said agents asked him Monday about his dealings with a number of firms and people connected to the Oakland Democrat, including Perata's son Nick; Timothy Staples, a longtime Perata friend and business partner; and lobbyist Lily Hu, a former Perata aide. News of the Perata probe broke in November 2004, as businesses and public agencies were being subpoenaed for documents related to Perata, his son and Staples, as well as his daughter and son-in- law, Rebecca Perata Rosati and Michael Rosati; former aides Hu and Ezra Rapport; political consultant Sandy Polka; and several of those people's companies. Subpoenas and sources indicate investigators are trying to determine whether any of those Perata associates or entities funneled money to Perata illegally. Federal agents searched Hu's home office in November, and [Don Perata] and Nick Perata's homes on Dec. 15, 2004, carting away boxes, computers and other items.
