Summary:I further shared that as a tribe, we should not rest on our laurels, that we need to do more for our people. I made this comment after Arlene Templer provided her department's budget. I feel grants help but they only offer sporadic employment We need to focus as much on bringing in industry so tribal members have lasting employment. I further commented that I felt we should have built a humane jail to rehabilitate our people, instead of the new health clinic. I also said it's not fair that I see non-Indian business men clutching their briefcases scurrying out of the Complex after just signing another lucrative deal. Yet, our Indian people are laid off. It seems to me it's easy for Council to lay Indians off because we're used to being poor.
