Summary: | Both sides are weighing appeals over the B.C. Supreme Court's award of $150,000 general damages for slanderous remarks by former premier Glen Clark against fast-ferry critic Bob Ward. While Justice Dermod Owen-Flood awarded the sum for general damages, he declined to award aggravated, punitive or special damages to the Sidney marine engineer and consultant. Ward did get unspecified interest since 1996 on the award plus costs against Clark. Owen-Flood ruled that Clark defamed Ward when he told reporters in 1996 that Ward was a "disgruntled bidder on this project who is constantly feeding misinformation on this issue." The comment was printed in the Vancouver Sun. |
