Summary: | Commonly accepted Canadian statistics on sexual assault indicate that 87 per cent of all women who have been sexually assaulted never report the crime to police, and 12 per cent never tell anyone. Some reasons cited as to why women do not come forward are due to concerns about the attitude of police/courts towards sexual assault as well as their own fear and shame. We are extremely concerned that the judge's remarks will only serve to further intimidate victims. |
